We Won the First Fight. Now It’s Time to Finish the Job.
In 2025, Maryland imposed a new sales tax on precious metals purchases, including gold, silver, and bullion. The change placed a new burden on retirees, families, collectors, investors, and small businesses across the state.
But Marylanders pushed back.
Coin dealers and business owners showed up in force at legislative hearings and political meetings. Supporters donated their time and resources, citizens made their voices heard, and lawmakers who understood the importance of protecting savers helped move legislation forward.
That effort worked. Maryland reversed the new tax structure and restored the previous $1,000 exemption.
It was an important victory, but the work is not finished.
Maryland still taxes precious metals purchases under $1,000, while many other states provide a full sales tax exemption. This year, we are returning to Annapolis to fight for complete tax relief on precious metals and a fairer policy for Maryland savers, collectors, families, and businesses.
